Millersburg Church of God

A Fundraising
for A New Facility
for The Food Pantry
Proposed Property Layout
The Pantry at Millersburg Church of God (located close to West Holmes Middle and High School) has been active in helping to alleviate hunger in Holmes and surrounding counties for over eight years. We operate entirely on donations with a volunteer work force of 16 to 18 people who work tirelessly several days each week to provide food to families in need. We serve an average of 90 families on Friday each                                                                       week, and have served over 140 families on several Fridays.                                                                      In each of the past two years, we have distributed more than
one-half of a million pounds of food to over 14,000 people
and are on track to do so again in 2017. The Pantry has
operated out of our 16x60 Fellowship Hall, which has
become inadequate with the growing need for storage and
operation space. We purchased a property less than two
miles away from our current location in 2011 to build a
separate facility to house The Pantry. The property is now
fully paid for and a fund raising campaign has begun.
We have designed our new facility and grounds
to serve multiple purposes to maximize both
usage and income opportunities. The new
pantry facility will be housed in a 60x120
building that will have an office area, a table
& chair storage room, two handicapped
accessible 2-stall restrooms, 1 handicapped
accessible restroom with an outside entry, a
large room for meetings, banquets, etc., a
food storage warehouse with a walk-in cooler,
a walk-in freezer, and a kitchen. Outdoor
spaces will include an orchard of 250-300 apple
trees, a pavilion with barbeque grates, a large
gazebo on a pond for weddings, a softball field
and numerous garden seating areas. Several
acres will be devoted to vegetable crops and future harvests from the trees will provide apple sauce, apple jelly, and frozen sliced apples for families in need. The pavilion and softball field will be available for family reunions, corporate picnics and softball tournaments with the gazebo hosting beautiful outdoor weddings. The income generated from these events will be used to fund the operation of the food pantry.

The Orchard of Hope fund raising campaign seeks donors to sponsor the planting of 250-300 apple trees on the grounds of the new facility in the spring of 2018.  A tree planted in someone's memory or in honor of a person, business or organization is a living tribute that benefits present and future generations, and is perhaps the most fitting memorial gift of all.

Three levels of Memorial or Tribute Sponsorships for the apple trees are available: $100, $500, and $1,000 or more. Each sponsor will receive a plaque with an inscription to be staked beside an apple tree, as well as their name featured on a mural in The Upper Room Banquet Hall. We have three different plant stakes to represent the three levels of sponsorship, which are shown by the attached Sponsorship Form. Our goal is to raise $150,000 in cash or in-kind donations to install a water well, a septic system, a driveway, a parking lot, the pavilion with attached storage shed for lawn care equipment, and the gazebo and pond in the spring of 2018. We plan to use products made or sold in Holmes and surrounding counties as much as possible. If your business offers building products or services, you may want to provide an in-kind donation. We will utilize semi-trailer(s) to store in-kind donated products. Our goal is to begin construction of the new building in the summer of 2018, with a Grand Opening being held in late fall. All projections are based upon the success of fund raising campaigns and grants.

Our new facility will be known as The Upper Room.  We like to jokingly say we chose a new name as we are sure no bride would want to list The Food Pantry as the location on invitations for her wedding.  Actually, the new name was chosen because it better promotes our ministry venue.  In the days when Jesus walked this earth, some of his companions would
go ahead to a village and make arrangements for His food and lodging. These arrangements were most often made in a facility which had an upper room - a large room that could hold a large amount of people and could be used for teaching,
eating and worshiping.  In addition to serving the needs of our food pantry, The Upper Room facility and grounds will be a
wonderful choice to hold a seminar, retreat, banquet, family reunion, wedding, receptions and other events.  The funds
generated from these rentals will be used to maintain the food pantry operation.  We will have three areas on the
property available for lease either individually or in a package: The Banquet Hall at The Upper Room, The Gazebo
at The Upper Room, and The Pavilion at The Upper Room.
